Get Your Glow On! – My tanning routine

When it comes to getting a tan my best bet is always to fake rather than bake! My skin is very sensitive to heat and rather than acquiring a gorgeous glow, I end up with very red and irritated skin (some kind of heat allergy I’m sure!).

I’ve tried a few different types of the years; instant, gradual, lotions, sprays and mousses, all have worked fine with just a few niggles. Then I found this beauty in a bargain shop and all my tanning dreams were fulfilled in this bronze bottle – Dove Summer Glow Nourishing Lotion in the shade fair to medium.

It’s so easy to apply and leaves your skin soft and moisturised with a subtle glow. I apply it 2-3 times a week, normally when I wash my hair and it never leaves me streaky or patchy! In order to keep my skin in tip top condition I also exfoliate 2-3 times a week with a pair of exfoliating gloves, these can be found in any pharmacy, cosmetics shop or even supermarkets and usually cost a couple of pounds. The gloves help keep my skin smooth so the tan looks more natural. Something I’ve always hated with gradual tanners is the really strong smell, but with this one the smell is actually quite pleasant and I hardly notice it!

I have to confess that one of the reasons I love it so much is that when it comes out the bottle it’s not the usual white lotion which ends up staining the lid with an orange goo. It actually comes out bronze and to my eye is a little glittery, AMAZING!

Unfortunately, I think this product is been phased out (correct me if I’m wrong!) to make way for Dove’s newer version called Dove DermaSpa Summer Revived Body Lotion, which is probably why I found this in a bargain shop for £2. I stocked up in any case and only hope the revised version is just as good if not better for when I finally run out!

For my face I always try to use a tanner that is specific to that area, I try to look after my skin as best I can and feel that some gradual tanners are too heavy for use on the face.

The one I’m trying at the moment is No 7 Naturally Sunkissed Gradual Face Tan, so far I’m enjoying it. I’ve been using it either morning or night every other day and after a few applications have noticed that my face looks slightly more tanned. I love that is also has an SPF 15 included, as you can never be too careful! The only thing I don’t like is that it is rather greasy to apply and your face feels slimy for around 10 minutes until it soaks in. Apart from that I have no issues!

Let me know if you rate any other gradual tanners!
